13% of our regular offering is given to the Cooperative Program which is the main evangelism tool of the Southern Baptist Convention. This money supports International, North American, state, and local mission efforts.
International
A group made up of our church and other churches go to Honduras in July through the Honduras Baptist Dental Mission in Laurel, MS. We minister to the people in Honduras physically and spiritually.
A World Hunger emphasis is observed early in October. The proceeds are given to the BGR (Baptist Global Response).
Individuals can pack a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child In late Oct.
We also take a yearly offering at Christmas called the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions that specifically goes to Southern Baptist International Missionaries.
Through the International Mission Board (imb.org), we support approximately 4,800 missionaries who are engaging 787 people groups across the globe.
National
Church planting and evangelism efforts are coordinated by our North American Mission Board (namb.net) resulting in more than 1,000 evangelistic church plants last year.
We take up on offering around Easter call the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missionaries.
State
Our Church works through the Mississippi Baptist Convention to support a wide array of ministries and missions including: evangelism efforts, children’s homes, volunteer missions, missions education, new churches, colleges and universities, collegiate ministries, camps, and much more.
Our church observes the Margaret Lackey State Mission offering in September. The Margaret Lackey Offering is the primary funding stream for key missional emphases to support efforts in many different areas: Camp Garaywa, Central Hills, Missions Volunteers, New Church Starts, Community Mission Projects, Disaster Relief, Criminal Justice, College Outreach, Christian Women’s/Men’s Job Corps, Cross-Cultural Evangelism, Language/Deaf Ministry, and Port Ministry. Margaret Lackey is like the Cooperative Program’s little sister and adds value to what Mississippi Baptists are doing together in missions, Christian education, church leadership, and benevolence. The offering helps position us to fulfill the Great Commission appeal of Acts 1:8.
Local
1.4% of our regular offerings is reserved for local benevolence and community missions.
We also stock a food pantry. Food is given out 3-4 times a week to families in need.
In the winter, we help school children stay warm by buying coats for them. School Supplies are collected in August. We participate in providing Sunday School and Birthday Parties at Covington County Nursing Center.
